End of 2018

Happy Holidays! The last two events for the fall semester have kept everyone at CaSP quite busy.

On November 16, in collaboration for the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, CaSP had the pleasure of welcoming Kei Koizumi to give a seminar to the UW-Madison community. Mr. Koizumi served as the Assistant Director for Federal Research and Development, and Senior Advisor to the Director for the National Science and Technology Council for 8 years in the Obama White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy. His presentation gave a behind the scenes look on how the Obama administration advanced a science agenda and recounted many of his experiences working for the administration. Mr. Koizumi ended his talk by encouraging everyone to be creative and use every skill or connection you have as a tool for change.

On December 05, CaSP was treated to a seminar by Prof. Dominique Brossard, Chair of the Department of Life Sciences Communication here at UW-Madison. Her talk briefly introduced us to the field of science communication, the challenges that face scientists, and the role social media could play in communication and advocacy. She ended her talk with tips on how scientists can better interact with nonscientists.
