July 21, 2020: Leveraging science to inform evidence-based policy on controversial issues. The panel that joins us today will discuss how to use science to craft evidenced-based policy. We hope over the next hour you’ll recognize the challenges in this work, appreciate how science can help solve critical issues in our community, and leave excited to get involved in local policy. Our two panelists are Dr. Jo Handelsman, a professor of plant pathology and Director of the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Kate Austin Stanford, the Director of Operations at Public Health-Madison and Dane County. Note: Bianca Shaw, the governor appointed Director of the Office of Urban Development for the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, was scheduled to be a part of this panel but was unable to attend due to an emergency.
